DELHI : In yet another jolt to Amity Business School,
the Delhi state consumer commission has directed Amity
Business School to pay Rs 1.10 lakh as compensation to a
student Gunvinder Kaur Bhatia for misrepresenting that
the course she had taken admission for was recognised by
All India Council for Technical Education.
The
commission, while awarding the compensation to Gunvinder
Kaur, said : "The candidates should be adequately
compensated for mental agony for having spent few years
in obtaining the degree which was represented to be
recognised by a government authority but later on found
to be unrecognized."
The
direction by the commission was given on an appeal filed
by Gunvinder Kaur who had enrolled for a Post Graduate
Diploma in International Business (PGDIB) at the
business school in Noida - asking for the enhancement of
the Rs 1 lakh compensation amount awarded by a district
consumer forum.
The commission's Bench headed by Justice J D
Kapoor said: "Unfair trade practice saddles the
person who makes such representation with the liability
of compensating the consumer according to the loss or
injury suffered by the consumer due to such
misrepresentation."
A quick
survey reveals that Amity Business School has been
dragged to court in a number of cases following
withdrawal of AICTE approval to Amity's flagship course
- the PGDM.
