NEW DELHI : The Union Ministry of Human Resource Development has
constituted a committee to review the pay and emoluments of the faculty
members of the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian
Institutes of Management (IIMs), according to highly placed ministry
official.
The committee will be headed by Prof Govardhan Mehta former director of
Indian Institute of Science Bangalore who will make a comprehensive study
of the 6th pay commission recommendations.
The committee will also meet the faculty members of IITs, IIMs, NITs,
IIITs before submitting its report, said the official in the MHRD.
The committee has been specifically assigned the task of suggesting a
salary structure that would lure fresh faculty and help retain quality
faculty in the prestigious institutions, said the official.
The committee has been given three months time to complete the report to
enable the government to implement it before next general elections the
official said.
The committee will also look into the recommendations of Prof G K Chadha
committee set up to recommend pay structure of university teachers.
As the Human Resources Ministry is aiming to open eight IITs, seven IIMs,
20 IIITs and six NITs all over the country, it is difficult to get
faculty. Though some of the proposed institutions have already started its
functioning from this academic year many of them have facing faculty
crunch.
Once the current salary structure revived, the Government was expected to
get some quality staff to both existing and upcoming institutions said the
official. |
